Visit to Japan
4 Apr by Simon
Last Week Simon traveled to Japan to discuss research with Professor Kondo at the Research Institute for Humanity and Nature (RIHN) in Kyoto. Whilst there he presented the NIHU ORNHIA seminar entitled: Archaeology of the Continental Shelf: A global perspective on the challenges and opportunities facing Submerged Prehistory to an international audience. He also had several meetings with heritage managers, including Dr Kojiro of the Agency for Culture Affairs from the Government of Japan, an expert on the protection of Japanese heritage. In addition to many meetings, Simon and Prof. Kondo even found the time for a field trip to visit a 28,000 year old buried forest which had amazing preservation. Although it was a hectic schedule, it was an exciting trip, and we would like to thank everyone at the RIHN and especially Prof. Kondo for his hard work which made it such a success !
